MARS
is a singer and songwriter, harpist and performer,
photographer and multi-media artist currently living and working and learning on an island in the Salish Sea. Reverently residing on the ancestral land of the Snuneymuxw people, Mars is continuously reflecting on her role as a white settler roaming these lands and waters. Committed to examining and dismantling White Supremacy and its effects on this earth, Mars strives to name harm and maintain accountability.
Using voice, harp, loops, and her imagination, Mars strives to create a dreamlike state in which to tell soothing stories and bring nightmarish shadows into the light.
Mars has one full-length album titled Music for the Moon (2019), which explores themes of time, nature, and the intersections and dissections of body, mind, and spirit. She self-produced and released an EP, The Chaucer Sessions in 2017.
Mars has been writing songs for over ten years. She brings these words and melodies to her solo project MARS, and band duo Dagger Harbour.
DAGGER HARBOUR
Gabriola Island-based Dagger Harbour brings you west-coast tidings of damp. They've got a harp, a banjo, and the harmonies you need.
With interpretations of only the most haunting folk and country favourites, along with some equally unsettlingly sweet new material, the only thing you’ll be wanting when they’re finished playing is your own shiny dagger.
They’ve been a summer band while re-integrating into the rhythms of the west coast - stay tuned for what 2024 will bring.
